COMBE HAY WINE & VINEYARD

Founded in 1986, in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty just outside historic Bath, we are committed to bringing you the natural flavours of our heritage vine varieties which were chosen as they produce fruit that truly reflects the beautiful surroundings – their terroir.

Great wine starts in the vineyard, so taking a regenerative and holistic approach to the whole environment of the vines, we feed and protect them with biodynamic sprays made from organic plants gathered on our part re-wilded site.

With numerous examples of Roman use of the site, it is likely they also had a vineyard here, fed by the same natural spring water.

The vineyard sits on a South facing slope, sheltered by a woodland full of natural life to experience on the foraging walks we host and a serenity that calms those on our nature courses.

See baby grapes (flowers) if you look closely even at this early stage in growth. They are what will be killed if there's a hard frost.

Interesting to have the Somersetshire Coal Canal Society out this morning to see the canal milestone marker in the Vineyard woods. I learnt so much and it was lovely to hear about the history of the land. The Canal went across just below the vineyard. My dad rescued the marker stone and made both of us lifetime members of the SCCS.

Pruning Stories - 'The Sensai' this amazing vine always teaches me something. It's so knarled and old, baby trees grow at its roots, moss on its trunk houses numerous mini beasts and rabbits half dug a burrow at its base, when we took the vineyard on it literally rested, propped up on a stone. It just keeps on going, this year again it produced lovely growth.
